In recent times many have ventured to the Figure 8 Pools in the Royal National Park located on the southern fringes of Sydney, to witness the unique and natural formation of a number 8 (shape) eroded in the rocks near the ocean. Interest in the Figure 8 Pools has been partly due to exposure on the internet via social media. Some adventurists are risking their lives for the sake of social media kudos and fame.

The Figure 8 Pools are a popular fishing spot for locals who dare the trek there. The rogue waves can be a common occurrence, with waves as big like this one happening regularly when the sea is up.
Taking groups of people there on tours can be disastrous as people have been washed off at the Figure 8 Pools multiple times in the past, as well as several deaths along this stretch of coastline due to rogue waves.
It’s a beautiful area in the Royal National Park to witness Australia’s natural rugged coastline, boasting spectacular sunrises and coastal flora; but please remember to ALWAYS take care when on rocks near the ocean, and in the Royal National Park.
