A fire is burning in the Royal National Park, along Sir Bertram Stevens Drive. The fire has burnt over 2050 hectares and is being controlled.

Situation

Firefighters are gaining the upper hand over a fire burning in the Royal National Park along Sir Bertram Stevens Drive.

Firefighters supported by aircraft have established containment lines and remain on scene to monitor and strengthen them today.

Light rain fell over parts of the fireground overnight, however the fire will continue to produce smoke that is drifting over south western Sydney, the Illawarra and South Coast.

Advice

The Royal National Park will remain closed today, Tuesday 23 January.

Access is permitted to Bundeena and Maianbar via Farnell Avenue or Bundeena Drive.

If you remain in the Royal National Park keep yourself informed and monitor conditions. Follow the directions of emergency services.
